Lush news from our Masinagudi, India project about the progress of our current project out there – it’s all going great!

We were able to facilitate the building of a new computer room for a tribal school who want a better standard of education so that children can integrate with their wider society and enjoy better job prospects in the future. The building is now complete and is being used every day, where the children are learning literacy skills, writing, drawing, and other basic IT skills.

We were also able to provide safe drinking water for everybody in the tribal schools that we work in, which exceed our expectations at the start of the partnership with MYWA. Initially we were going to install water purification tanks, but after some consideration it was decided to build new pipe systems from a larger source so that it would be more reliable and be able to affect more people positively. Our partners told us that the problems with safe water for so bad before, so having guaranteed water for all the children and staff at the schools is amazing.

Among other things, SAFE have also been able to employ new teachers at tribal schools, buy new shoes and uniforms for all pupils in the schools with which they partner with and provide other vital resources.

Thanks to all of you who have supported The SAFE Foundation this year, children in areas that are severely disadvantaged and out of the reach of mainstream charities have been able to improve their lives and standard of education this year. Give yourselves a MASSIVE pat on the back!

I am officially the bearer of good news! YEAH!

Last time when I asked you all who wanted to go to Ghana to help our Ghanaian partners and volunteers build a school one million trillion of you replied. The problem was we only had 6 places to fill, so we had to say sozra to a lorra peeps.

BUT, we’re asking the same question again so another 6 or 7 of you can have a crack at helping out and get all constructiony on us.

We want to send another group out on the 1st November for 2 weeks to help out on this fab project. It costs £150 a week to go and that fee will get you fed, watered, accommodated, kitted up with tools and pay for your internal to’ing and fro’ing.

The other best news in the world is that our Cambodia volunteering programme is OFFICIALLY OPEN and sorted and recruiting volunteers to go and get some Asia vibes.

SAFE are recruiting teaching assistants to help our Khmer teachers boost the learning outcomes of some disadvantaged children in Siem Reap province. This project costs £160 a week, is a three week placement (but you can stay longer if you want to do more), and gets you fed, accommodated and kitted for the job.

These are NON PROFIT programmes, as are all our volunteering opportunities. This means that ALL proceeds generated by your fees will fund charitable projects for disadvantaged kids in the country of your placement.

If you’re interested get in touch asap as places are already filling up.

Hey Safers!

Ok, I might have to keep this short and sweet (Asia t’internet connection being the reason), but its all good in The S.A.F.E. Foundation Cambodia project, where I am now with SAFE photog extroadinaire – Dan Green.

I have met with the director of our partner charity, the CCAHA and toured the schools that we support with your help. The schools are FAB! The kids are mega attentive and learning well. The teachers that we support are also doing great, teaching with big smiles on their faces and a lot of love in their heart!

There is still much to do here, and the next few days will consist of lots of meetings with Kourosh, our fantastic project manager, to fine tune elements of the project that need improving. The social issues that the CCAHA and SAFE are addressing are important in long term responses to disadvantage and with your help we really can do a lot to improve them.

Cambodia as a whole is unbelievable! The people are friendly, the scenery staggering and the culture historic and interesting.

For now, I’m signing off, I will try to write again and pictures from Dan will follow shortly!

Lucy x
