TORORO - UGANDA

Background

The people of Tororo are amongst the poorest in Uganda and face a multitude of poverty issues which include bad access to livelihoods, bad access to healthcare, inadequate education resources in schools, entitlement deprivation and poor infrastructure.
The S.A.F.E. Foundation partnered with Tororo based organisation TOCIDA in Uganda last year and have a long term committment to improving the lives of these people in a manner that respects their traditional culture and basic human rights.
The S.A.F.E. Foundation also sit on the board of Vale4Africa, a Vale of Glamorgan based group who also have aims and objectives towards improving the overall quality of life for people in
Tororo, Uganda.

Project Aims

  • Implementation of a volunteer scheme in the area relieving pressures on local school staff by providing free labour, delivering sexual health and learning difficulties education in a respectful and empowering manner and providing palliative responses to those with bad health.
  • Improve school resources and encourage attendance at schools.
  • Introduction of a micro credit scheme that will encourage and nurture local skills with a view to ethical trading activity to put local markets in a position where they can strengthen and grow.

Completed Goals

  • Last year we started our relationship with TOCIDA by supporting 20 local children with learning difficulties, providing them with materials for school, and providing access to necessary medical treatments enable those needing them to attend school.
  • We have also taken an introductory visit to Tororo to meet the individuals involved in TOCIDA and to find out what the needs of the local community were.
