SAFE Ethical Boutiques

In the Spring of 2018 we launched our first Ethical Boutique at 31 Whitchurch Road, Cardiff.

We have always wanted to have a shop front but after years of teaching and learning about ethical consumerism and the way we shop – and who it affects – we knew that now was the time.

Our boutique sells vintage, up-cycled clothes and donations and homewares and isn’t your typical charity shop. We have the cool factor (or at least, that’s what we are telling ourselves).

But – we really wanted to push the boundaries and go further than that and so have partnered with local community projects to run workshops designed to deliver important information and awareness about how we can reduce our impact on the world and also be more aware of who is being affected or exploited along the consumer chain.

Regular swap shops encourage people to dig out good quality clothing that might be hiding at the back of their wardrobes and give them a new lease of life and a new home – in exchange for another item or a token to spend in store! Keep an eye on our upcoming events to get swapping!

Fixing workshops are held so that people can bring things in that need minor repairs and our experts will show you how to fix it up yourself – rather than throwing it away to landfill.

We are always taking your donations of quality and vintage clothing, books, wooden toys and homewares – we can’t take electrical items at the moment but watch this space.

In 2023, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to open another Ethical Boutique in Cardiff city centre and then in 2025, we made the tough but really positive decision to close our first two shops to move into a bigger space in St Davids Shopping Centre that also houses our own SAFE cafe and a workshop space! We’ve grown so much in the seven years since we opened our flagship shop on Whitchurch Road and the new shop feels like a wonderful SAFE hub where we can connect with both susutainable shoppers and coffee enthusiasts! Our CONSCIOUS COFFEE project gives us the opportunity to raise further funds through the sale of hot and cold drinks and help share barista skills with anyone keen to get involved!

The SAFE Ethical Boutique is located at 23 Cathedral Walk, St. David’s Shopping Centre (near Cafe Nero and M&S Food) and is open Monday – Saturday from 9am till 6pm. and on Sunday from 11am to 4:30pm.
